Rail Mover Repair in Glendive, MT

Rail car movers live a hard life: short shuttles, heavy couplings, constant direction changes and long idle stretches between cuts of cars. Mondak Equipment repairs road-rail car movers at the Glendive shop and in the field — Trackmobile models including the 9TM, 95TM and 4250, plus Rail King, Shuttlewagon, and Titan, Hercules and Viking units. That includes newer machines with controllers and fault codes and older mechanical Trackmobiles that have none, where the diagnosis comes from pressure gauges, a meter and knowing how the machine is supposed to behave. Engines, transmissions and drivetrain, brakes, hydraulics, electrical and control systems, rail-wheel and steering systems, and scheduled PM are all part of the work.

WHAT WE SERVICE

Work tied to the actual fault.

  • Trackmobile 9TM, 95TM and 4250 repair, plus Rail King, Shuttlewagon, Titan, Hercules and Viking units
  • Diesel engine no-start, power loss, overheating and PM service
  • Transmission, torque converter, axle and chain/drivetrain repair
  • Air brake, rail brake and parking brake troubleshooting
  • Rail-wheel lift, coupler, weight-transfer and steering hydraulics
  • Electrical, wiring harness, switch and control-system faults
  • Pressure and mechanical testing on older units with no fault codes

COMMON NEEDS

  • Rail gear won't raise, lower or hold weight on the rail
  • Unit loses tractive effort or slips when pulling a loaded string
  • Weight-transfer or coupler functions weak, slow or dead
  • Direction change harsh, delayed or won't engage
  • Air won't build or brakes won't release on the cars
  • Intermittent shutdowns, dead gauges or control switches that do nothing
  • Older mechanical unit with a problem and no codes to read

THE MONDAK APPROACH

Diagnose first. Repair with purpose.

On a newer mover, the controller and fault history are a starting point, not the answer. On an older mechanical Trackmobile there is nothing to plug into, so the work goes back to fundamentals: hydraulic pressure at the weight-transfer and rail-gear circuits, air pressure and brake response, voltage drop across switches and grounds, and a physical check of chains, bearings and linkage. That test data decides whether the failure is a component, a setting or wiring — before parts are ordered for a machine that may be decades old.

Many rail mover problems — brakes, air, hydraulic hose and valve issues, electrical faults and PM — can be handled where the unit works, when the site allows safe access; Dickinson-area sites are covered by our resident field technician. Transmission, engine and component rebuild work comes into the Glendive shop.
