When a machine loses hydraulic power, gets loud or runs hot, the pump or motor is often blamed first. Sometimes that's right. Sometimes the pump is fine and the problem is a relief valve, suction restriction or internal leakage elsewhere. Pump and motor wear shows up as leakage. We measure flow at pressure and case drain flow, and compare to specification. Noise gets traced to suction restriction or aeration first, because a new pump will fail the same way if the cause stays. After a failure, filters and oil are addressed so debris doesn't damage the replacement.
Pressure and flow tests can sometimes be done on site. Pump or motor replacement and system cleanup are usually done at the shop.
